How we support families

At Team Jak, our top priority is delivering the right emotional, social, and practical support at the right time to all those affected by a childhood diagnosis of cancer or other associated illness. We are a registered charity and we are here for children and young people aged 0-25, their families and friends.

Helping create smiles and easing the toughest of journeys, every day, across Scotland.

Emotional support

Team Jak delivers tailored emotional support in safe, compassionate spaces across Scotland for children and young people with cancer and their families. Included are 1:1 and group counselling, music therapy, sibling sessions, wellbeing activities, bereavement care, and so much more.

Social support

Our Team Jak social support includes joyful activities and fun events where children and young people with cancer — plus families and friends — can connect, laugh, and feel less alone. Join us at a welcoming Jak’s Den, for family outing, or at a themed event.

Practical support

We provide hands-on help to ease everyday pressures — from travel grants, help with schoolwork and tutoring to household tasks and family logistics. Team Jak’s practical support is flexible, personal, and available at home, hospital, or from our Jak’s Dens.

Jak's Den

Our unique Jak’s Den concept is at the heart of all that we do — and the idea came from Jak himself.

He wanted his legacy to be somewhere special for children and young people with cancer and related illnesses to join together. Somewhere they could take a break from their diagnosis, and — along with family and friends — just be themselves for a while.

From that vision we have our Jak’s Den, Team Jak’s HQ in Livingston, Jak’s Den Aberdeen and our pop-up Dens in Glasgow, and Fife.

Jak’s Dens now host an ever-growing programme of activities and events, providing essential emotional, social, and practical support to children, young people and their families from across Scotland.

The Team Jak childhood cancer charity was inspired by Jak Trueman, one of whose passions was football.

Jak's Journey & Legacy

Jak Trueman was a normal happy healthy teenager until August 2014, when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Five months later, aged 15, he gained his wings.

He wanted his legacy to be a special safe haven for other children and young people faced with a cancer diagnosis. Just six days before he passed, Jak unveiled his detailed plans tasking his mother Allison with creating somewhere families could find the non-medical support that had not been available to him.

And now, more than 10 years later, his compassionate vision has been realised many times over through the Team Jak Foundation and our unique Jak’s Dens.

Support Team Jak

We need your help to make what we do happen. Why not volunteer for us, fundraise, or make a donation? Every penny you raise for Team Jak will help us help children, young people and their families across Scotland.

Joining an event or challenge — such as Kilt Walk — is a great way to raise funds for Scottish childhood charity Team Jak.

Fundraise

Why not take on a challenge, organise an event, or perhaps choose Team Jak as your next workplace charity? Go with one of our fundraising ideas or choose one of your own — either way we’ll help you make it happen!

Donate

We are grateful for every donation Team Jak receives, big or small. And we make it as easy as possible, too, with options including one-off donations, giving monthly, through your payroll, or gifting in kind.

Volunteers at childhood cancer charity Team Jak help deliver a range of support sessions for children, young people, and their families across Scotland.

Volunteer

Our volunteers are incredible, and they’re right at the very heart of Team Jak. Every single volunteer plays a crucial role in delivering our very special emotional, social, and practical support, and we’d love you to join their ranks!
