We simply couldn’t do what we do without our incredible volunteers. They are right at the very heart of Team Jak, whether they’re supporting families directly, helping out at one of our Jak’s Dens, cheering us on at events, or lending a hand behind the scenes.
Every single volunteer plays a crucial role, and we’d love you to join the team!
Just by giving us some of your time, you’ll be helping create smiles and ease the journey for families across Scotland who are living with a childhood cancer diagnosis.
How do you think you could make a difference?
There are so many reasons to get involved as a Team Jak volunteer. Here are just a few:
Make a real difference to children and families on the toughest journeys
Be part of a warm, welcoming community
Boost your confidence, skills, and wellbeing
Connect with your local area
Support a cause that matters to you
Each Team Jak volunteer role comes with full training and support. We’ll work with you to find the perfect match for your interests, strengths, skills, and availability.
Volunteer with our Family Support team during sessions at our Jak’s Dens in Livingston and Aberdeen, and at our pop-up Dens in Glasgow and Fife. You’ll be helping children access creative activities, explore their feelings, and enjoy time with siblings or peers. Volunteers help facilitate play, build relationships, and contribute to notes that guide future sessions.
Bring smiles to families at home, in hospital, or at pop-up Jak’s Den sessions across Scotland. This sensitive role involves building strong, trusted relationships with families during challenging times.
Lend your skills to the behind-the-scenes work that keeps Team Jak running smoothly. From data entry and event prep to project support and donor communications, this role suits those with office experience or a love of organisation.
Help keep our Livingston Jak’s Den HQ and Aberdeen gardens clean, safe, and beautiful. Tasks might include gardening, basic repairs, store tidying, or helping out during deep cleans. Great for practical people who enjoy hands-on work.
Join our Fundraising Team to help raise vital money — and awareness. You could support events, help at local stalls, distribute and monitor collection tins, assist with bag packs, or help prepare resources at the Livingston and Aberdeen Jak’s Dens. This flexible role is perfect for sociable, proactive supporters.
How about becoming a Chief Smile Creator and dressing up as Team Jak mascot TJ, the happiness hound? TJ regularly takes centre stage at Team Jak events and also regularly pops in to our Jak’s Dens and visits the children’s wards. Just let us know if this idea gives you paws for thought…
I have volunteered at Team Jak for 10 years now. Life is busy but taking time out at Team Jak can help remind you what is more important in life. Seeing how brave and resilient the children and their families are it’s an honour to think I can support them even just a little in their journeys. I have participated in many things over the years, from fundraising to administration, but mostly just making a cuppa and lending a friendly ear to whoever needs it.
It is a huge honour and privilege for me as Jaks Granma to be involved in Team Jak in many different ways. It’s been lovely to see the charity grow and carry out Jak’s dreams while knowing I am making a wee difference.
Volunteering at Team Jak is like a warm hug. Team Jak is a family and giving some of our time is a rich, valuable, two-way street. You definitely get more out than you put in. Whether it be hosting parents in Jak’s Den or cutting the grass, it’s all worthwhile and rewarding.
Being a volunteer with Team Jak is like being a part of a big family through building relationships with the children, siblings, parents, and carers. I’m truly blessed to spend time with such lovely staff and volunteers who work together to make coming to Jak’s Den the most enjoyable experience it can be for our lovely visitors.
Team Jak has given me confidence, and it means the world to me to support families going through a difficult and challenging time. Without Team Jak I wouldn’t be half the person I am today. I am proud to be a volunteer.
It’s such a boost to know you are making a difference, however small. But most of all, I look forward to each and every event, working alongside the amazing people I have had the opportunity to meet and seeing the smiles of the children at play. All this thanks to the vision of one courageous young man, Jak!
